Jury Weighs Extra Damages Against Merck
A jury that awarded $4.5 million to a former Vioxx user who suffered a heart attack began deliberating Monday to decide whether manufacturer Merck & Co. should pay additional damages.
Thousands of lawsuits have been filed against drugmaker Merck over its now withdrawn pain reliever Vioxx. More than two thousand suits have already been filed. Analysts estimate Merck`s potential liability could reach 18 billion dollars.
