Merck: New drug safer than Vioxx
New Jersey-based Merck & Co. said Wednesday that a preliminary analysis of trial data shows its successor drug to Vioxx didn't increase patients' risk of cardiovascular events when compared with a traditional pain reliever but that more people withdrew from the study because of other problems, such as high blood pressure.

Court overturns Vioxx verdict
SAN ANTONIO, May 16 (UPI) -- The Texas Fourth Court of Appeals overturned a $7.75 million verdict against Merck & Co. in a lawsuit over the heart risk of the painkiller Vioxx.
