Researcher: Merck considered compound to make Vioxx safer
ATLANTIC CITY — Five weeks into a trial over whether Merck's now-withdrawn drug, Vioxx, caused a man's heart attack, a company researcher said Monday that Merck executives privately discussed adding a compound to the drug to make the painkiller protect the heart the way aspirin does.
Vioxx plaintiffs challenge deal terms
Lawyers for hundreds of people who sued Merck because of its withdrawn painkiller Vioxx are challenging a key provision of a proposed $4.85 billion settlement that requires lawyers to advise all or none of their clients to accept the deal.
