TRENTON, N.J. - Merck & Co., which has been seeking U.S. approval for a successor to its withdrawn arthritis painkiller Vioxx for nearly three years, has submitted new patient data to regulators and could get a decision on the drug in the spring.
As studies continue to be released that explore the cardiovascular risks of Vioxx, Celebrex, Bextra, and other pharmaceuticals, the FDA has come under widespread criticism for failing to protect the public from “unsafe” drugs.
