Doctor who prescribed Vioxx recalls drug maker's campaign
Merck & Co. salespeople treated doctors to filet mignon at a 2001 presentation on the company's Vioxx painkiller as part of a campaign to defend the drug's safety record, a physician who prescribed the drug to a Texas man who later died testified Wednesday.

Testimony is set to start today in the first Vioxx related lawsuit to go to trial in the US. The top epidemiologist for Merck and Company may be the first witness. The trial centers on the 2001 death of 59-year-old Robert Ernst. Ernst took Vioxx for about eight months.

Merck Wins Judge’s Ruling Against Vioxx Class Action
